AEA VN [Lao Cai]: Vietnam mountain marathon and human trafficking awareness raising trip
Awareness raising on human trafficking in Lao Cai – A special lesson
Lao Cai, 21 September 2018 – 60 ethnic minority students hopped on a special tour organized by AEA Vietnam and our new dynamic sponsor. Escorted by 10 teachers from Lung Cai and Lau Thi Ngai primary schools – part of Aide et Action’s project in the Lao Cai area – the students had a unique experience visiting the Lao Cai International Border Gate, setting foot on the border between Vietnam and China, and visiting the Museum of Lao Cai Province to learn about human trafficking and, by lucky coincidence, celebrating the mid-autumn festival.
Trafficking of women and children has been on the rise in recent years in the northern border province of Lao Cai, making it a hotspot for this crime. Many victims are from the Mong minority community. This is where Aide et Action intervenes with a series of project activities focusing on education, including raising awareness and promoting skills to prevent trafficking amongst Mong children.
Setting foot on the border between Vietnam and China, students and teachers from both schools listened very carefully to the officer of the Border Gate Administration Center. The children learned about such difficult concepts as immigration exit and enter, the meaning of home nation, the tragedies of lives taken by trafficking and the common tactics used by the bad guys’.
“The Border Gate is like the door of my house. When parents are not around, I will not take candy from strangers.” shared Cu Thi Ha, a 4th grade student after hearing Officer Nguyen The Bang, Deputy Chief of the Border Gate Administration Center share stories about kidnapping and human trafficking.
Studies show that children remember lessons best when they feel happy, so the tour was designed for the children to have the maximum of fun and divers experiences. After a yummy lunch, the tour brought all students to the decorated hall of the Museum of Lao Cai for a celebration. The afternoon was filled with laughther, dance, music and games all containing content about how to prevent trafficking, led by both the donor and Aide et Action staff. “I like it so much!” is how Ly Thi Thu Huong summed up how much she enjoyed the day.
Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2018 – Bravo to two winners!
Lao Cai, 22 September 2018 – One of the hardest but most stunning mountain marathons for experienced runners, the Vietnam Mountain Marathon was back for the 6th time and on this occasion , Aide et Ation Vietnam took on the challenge. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu, Country Director, and Mr. Dao Trong Cuong, member of our project team that promotes inclusive development for ethnic minority children and youth, both registered and committed to running 10km each of this challenging mountain route!
And guess what?! They both finished the run among the earliest finishers. Despite the harsh sun and challenging road, the duo were both awarded with Vietnam Mountain Marathon medals for their 10km run. Follow our facebook page to track the beautiful, difficult road they had run.
Aide et Action Vietnam taking this challenge was not only significant in the sense that we promoted a healthy lifestyle, but also since it is part of potential fundraising activities by Aide et Action Vietnam.
Bravo, Tu & Cuong! Well done, Aide et Action Vietnam!
