Stabilizing the Education of Ethnic Minority Children and Youth in the context of Covid-19.

On 11th March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic globally. As of 31st March, there have been 697,244 confirmed cases in 204 countries/territories whilst in Viet Nam, 207 cases have been confirmed (WHO). All schools in Viet Nam have been closed since 23rd January 2020 and, until now, it is not clear when they will be reopened.
Reducing the impact of Covid-19 on the development of ethnic minority children and youth, particularly those from low-income households, in Lai Chau and Lao Cai provinces.
Children will be supported with necessary support such as:
- Items to protect their health such as soaps, masks, handwashing sanitisers.
- Nutritious food such as a package containing milk and nutrition cracker(s)
- Lunch support given to their schools after the pandemic to ensure children continue their education.
- Financial assistance with bills such as electricity bills will be covered for three months.
Ethnic minority children and youth (3-17 years old) from low-income households
- Direct beneficiaries: 5,607 children, 100 youth, 60 teachers and 20 parents in Hoa Binh, Lai Chau and Lao Cai provinces.
- Indirect beneficiaries: 21,823 (total population of seven communes in the project areas).
